Can't Feel Clutch When Pushed? Urgent Help!! - BMW Forum

I have a 1987 E30 and i have just experienced a problem. I have removed my instrument cluster and the plugs attached to the back of it. I have strated the car since then and it worked fine. Today, i was about to start the car and i pushed the clutch and i could not feel anything. I checked the spring holding the pedal and it seems fine. Any idea why this could be happening?

Check if you have enough fluid

and if you do, your clutch pump is out

Yes, I would suspect the hydraulic clutch cylinder is kaput (about $35-$40). Can you still shift her?

I can only put the car in gear once it is switched off. If it is on, it will make a cranking sound when it try to put in gear and it will not go.

Then you can be asure it's the clutch cylinder... no worries though

should be easy to fix, it's easy in Mitsubishi's Colt 92' and shouldn't be any more complicated on a E30

Where is the clutch cylinder located on the E30?

Haven't done a E30, did a TR-7, but if you follow the hydraulic line from the clutch pedal master cylinder to the transmission you should find the hydraulic clutch cylinder near the clutch and along side the transmission. There will be a hydraulic line, a bleed port with rubber cap, and two bolts that retain the cylinder. The procedure is to unscrew the hydraulic line, remove cylinder, install new cyliner, hook up hydrauulic line and then bleed the cylinder (just like you do brakes except you are depressing the clutch pedal as someone opens the hydraulic cylinder bleed port.)
