Can I keep convertible top tucked in?

Hi,

We bought a 1987 325ic with a fairly new top. Our question is about whether we can generally keep the top down, folded in the well, or if we should be putting it up when not in use.
Does keeping it folded make a difference?
THANKS

I've heard you shouldn't leave it down for too long (how long that actually is, I don't know) because it will leave creases in the top...especially the plastic window. But, I've left my top down for 3 or 4 days at a time and haven't seen any problems...

Nihilator is an unknown quantity at this point
If you have a hardtop, I suppose you're expected to keep your top folded in the boot for the whole winter.
