broken shaft

plastic shaft inside shift tube broke ...on my e 30 auto tranny...i have the part numbers....can the repair be done from inside the car...do i have to get under it....thanks

problem solved ....plastic shaft did not break just fell into tube ....new set screw and shell be back on the road again...thanks
