Boot Lid Stuck

Hi, I have an e30, 2 door 318i. My boot lid won't unlock. The key moves freely in the lock and nothing happens and the central locking actuator doesn't unlock it using the key in the other doors. I have been told there is only 1 thing to do, which is to drill a hole into the boot and remove the lock. Is that true, and if so, where do I drill and can the lock be saved? If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. thanks
