bmw's and the snow

i just bought an 87 bmw 325. i was wondering if this car is any good in the snow. i know it is a rear wheel drive vehicle and figure it is terrible in the snow.

President's day weekend this year we had over a foot and a half of snow. Tuesday I drove the car to work with no problems. The key is to have good tires. I have Toyo Avids. $60 a piece. No problems. I trust that car more in the snow than my 96 328is.

It all depends on the driver. How much experience do you have driving RWD? If none, then it's gonna SUCK to be you when it snows. If you have lots, then it won't be a problem when it snows. FWD, RWD, AWD - makes no difference what you have; if ya can't drive, ya can't drive.

How have you fared so far in rain? The way your car handles in the rain will give you a pretty good idea of how it will handle in the snow. Not spot on, but if you have trouble when it rains you are going to have MAJOR problems when it snows.

Do you know what to do if your car fish tails? Do you know how to get out of deep snow if you get stuck? Have you ever been to a Turkish prison? Have you ever seen a grown man naked Timmy?

In short - It's all on you and not the car.

thanks for the info guys. i do have snow tires. i bought two extra rims and put them on so i am ready to go when it snows. also i totally agree about how you drive the vehicle. that is why we see so many accidents with SUV's. it gives these people a false sense of security. just cause you have an suv doesn't mean you can drive like an asshole in the snow. thanks for the info. vialii8

i was seriously stuck in those last three pics... but got out no problem after a few minutes of just slowly rocking it... i was driving on arctic alpins w/ no extra weight in the back... it really does depend on how good of a driver you are in the snow... i've never had a problem & i slide all over the fuckin place on purpose when the roads are lonely.

i absolutely love having fun in the snow

hahahah!!! funny you should say that... i think it was that night i was out skrewing around some more, snapped my fan/alternator belt & overheated :lol:

i cleaned it out a few minutes later, since it blocks airflow to the radiator & actually raises temps... but i know u were jokin

bottom line is, if you're in a snowy area, get some good snow tires ... NOT ALL SEASONS... they suck... get out into parking lots & do some seroius logical experimentation to see how your car behaves in the slippy white stuf & how to control it

i used to live in the midwest and i would see cars go up a hill sideways...and yes its true and i almost died once in the snow..going across a bridge, we slide in and out of traffic on the bridge(2 way, 2 lane bridge) and under neath the bridge was the main highway(I-76). we were about 3 mins away from the store/tuning place called "Summit Racing". but anyways thats my scary story
