I'm actually looking into getting a "new" car, to replace my accord. A fair while ago my dad bought a 735i that had been written off, to convert our 7 series over (steering wise, i'm from australia). After getting all the parts he neglected the swap and bought a new car. Since my accord is getting in up there in the km's i was thinking about getting something else (BMW E30) towards the end of the year. Alot of them are over priced where i'm from, so if i could get a cheap, high mileage E30 and throw the I6 from the 735i in there i would definately go ahead with it. Now here are my questions; how hard is it to do this swap? Has it (or something similar) been done before without too much hassle?. Would it cost an arm and a leg if i had a shop do it for me? I just want to know what it would entail if i went ahead with it. If your saying i should do more research i'm doing it atm, so hopefully i can get as much background knowledge as possible. If you guys can give any advice or help i'd much appreciate it. Thanks in advance

^^^^That's an interesting challenge. Haven't read about something like that before. I'll post something if I come across it. If you pay someone to do it, it'll prolly be two arms and a leg.

btw, to the forum.

e30 m30 conversion has been done several times, especially in germany.

i assume it's and e32 (87-94) and that's good, because the oilpan fits. you need new engine mounts. the drive-shaft has to be shortened. new brakes etc. there are too many things to spit out now, but here is a total guide to creating an m30e30:

a good thing is that you have a whole car to take parts from, otherwise it could get expensive to buy a part here and a part there. if you really wanna do it, i bet you can. but it sure isn't as easy as dropping in an m20 engine.
