| It is possible to pick up a decent 1984 BMW 318 for less than a $1000, say $700 in decent condition. Would it make sense to put turbo, like let's say T3 Super 60 and run 7 psi of boost. Let's say 160rwp and 170 wtq, maybe little less.
I understand it requires some work to turbo E30 318 M10.
-According to some people 318 M10 is weaker than the one used in 2002 and E21 320.
- Fuel system must be upgraded to handle more power
- Stock small casing differential will be pulvarized by turbo torque
Overall I think it might be cheaper than S14 swap.
I figure turbo ~ $800 + manifold/piping ~$1200 + other parts ~$500 = $2500
Plus suspension ~$800.
Considering I pick up the car for $700, plus turbo $2500 + suspension $800 =$4000. A small car with a light nose that will give E30 M3 a run for its money for under $5000.
I guess I forgot rear brake conversion, drums ==>> disks, and getting a new M10 engine/head in case I blow the first one.
Does that sound reasonable, or not? Is it a botomless pit, disgused as "small $$$$ pocket Rocket"???? |
