BMW 318I 1984 Oxygen Sensor - BMW Forum

Hello Guys,

I have a question that I know for some might be a stupid one yet I feel I have to ask it before jumping into conclusions.

As you can see I have a 318I 84' E30 European version. This is the most simply of this model with no extras at all.

I bought it only a year ago and I noticed that it doesn't show any Oxygen Sensor on the exhaust. It is just not there.

Is it missing becuase an old owner decided to disconnect it? or are there cars of these model without an oxygen sensor(I know it does not make sense but I have to ask).

If is missing; there is no cable hanging anywhere; where is the Oxygen Sensor supposed to be plugged(In the ECU).

OK, nobody seems to knwo where is plugged on the ECU. That's cool I can find that out. A much more simple one then. Does it has or doesn't it has a oxygen sensor?

does the car run at all? cause if it has a missing O2 sensor or even one that didn't work at all the car would not be good, and you would know it right now....

Thanks for your answer. That's funny, because the car run fine. Only when I check the exaust from the begining to end I can't find the sensor.

Oh also, I have a haynes manual and they say that the ECU is programmed to establish a set mixture in order to continue working when the oxygen sensor is not active/not there. So.... I guess the car should run even without the sensor; the computer simply loose that feedback and clearly becomes less efficient but that's it.
