Best Mtf Fluid?? Throw Out Bearing??

I HAVE AN ANNOYING NOISE IN MY GREAT WORKING MANUAL TRANS.
when i am idling clutch out. seller said it was shroud. another tech i showed it too said throw out bearing - but my exerience is thats problem when noise is with clutch in. an autozone employee who said he worked in bmw service for a while said it sounded like low fluid.

would appreciate all opinions on best fluid for a 250,000 plus manual trans that is noisy clutch out in idle but performs great otherwise.


also any diagrams of throw out bearing mtf drain plug or fill tube appreciated

grade 80W is the specified grade for M/T but with the newer oils on the market, 75W-90 should be equally good.

you will find a fill plug and a drain plug on the tranny. Once drained, all u need to do is fill tranny gear oil into the fill plug, and fill until it begins to spill(about 1.3-1.5ltrs) install plug. and you are done.

your idea about throw out bearing is correct. throw out bearing noise with clutch out is not likely because the clutch release bearing is not"in use" with clutch out ruling out the vibrating or rotational noise u complain of... unless, the clutch bearing has lost it's return spring and rubs on the clutch fingers while stationary(such is a rare case)

got plugs loose with b-bar. and threads spun off great on fill plug. very little fluid in case - little on the plug smelled pungent like rotten eggs or certain firecrackers (d3 atf smells a bit sweet to my nose).

exact number on GREEN LABLE - SPECIAL OIL is
HWB - Best. - Nr. 81 22 9 407 305. (what does this refer to???) - also below this number is an icon of oil can with x'd out 2000km

I bent a plastic straw and tried to angle and dip it to the bottom of casing by drain plug but got nothing. since I think there is next to no fluid in there I was wary of loosening drain plug far enough as to let a little drip cuz I didn’t want plug to come out and what little to all spill out.
