I have some questions regarding the replacement of the stock H1 bulbs of my BMW to new and brighter bulbs.
For starters, I started with the cheapest solution, buying a pair of H1 Xenon bulbs from ebay for $4.99. I have seen a major difference for the high-beam lights but for the low-beam lights it's a dissapointment.

My car has the "smiley" type low-beam lights (European specs).
I believe that the problem is that the filament or the entire bulb is not entirely the same with the original Osram H1 that came installed since 1989.
My questions are:
1. What is the best, aftermarket H1 bulb I can get that will produce the best light output considering the low-beam type I have. I have seen on ebay many H1 models but I really don't know what to choose - ranging from Osram to Philips etc.
2. Does the fact that I have "smileys" affect the performance or affects the light output for non-stock H1 bulbs?
I do not seek for an HID conversion since it is way to expensive.
Thank you in advance
