So, took my car in for its regular service, oil change, etc, got stuck with a nice $60 tab. Only the best oil, filter, etc for the spoiled brat. Anyways, sitting in the engine bay, the mechanic fired up the engine, and it began its looping erratic idle (500 up to 850, back to 500, over and over) and he came over, concerned, and showed me what it was doing. I told him it happens every so often, and she drives perfect, so I wasn't worried.
He breathed a heavy, relieved sigh. He then told me I didn't have to worry about him 'trying' to fix her. He didn't want to mess with a 20 year old computerized-injection German car, unless I could tell him exactly what to do.
I was amused. I think it's a good thing that he won't go tinkering with the car unless I tell him what to do, rather than pretend he knows what he's doing.

Where'd you take it?
I've had similar experiences at Chapman BMW of Scottsdale. No one yet I've talked to knows much about e30's. Or at least, as much as I do.
