Today I decided to replace the tranny fluid with new Castrol Synthetic Fluid. As I opened the drain plug, guess what?! Red Automatic Tranny fluid! I don't get it, is this okay or has my tranny already suffered horrible damage due to the different viscosity of the automatic tranny fluid?
I don't know why the last owner did this, is this common practice?

I have ATF in my E30 325i trans. Make sure when you are using syn. fluids in your trans. that it is formulated for manual trans. otherwise you will start grinding gears when you shift cause the syncros won't be catching the way they are soposed to.
