alternator mounting (325e 85') - BMW Forum

does anyone know or have a diagram of the mounting on a 85 bmw 325e. i see a broken tab but im not sure if its a mounting tab or just something else. and the alt is kinda wobbly side to side so double checking the mounting

i have a really loose alternator, and for the life of me i can't figure out how its not supposed to be that way. it seems like there should be another bolt or something pushing it so it dosnt come back. bolts are tight, brackets seem fine, but i dunno...

This seems unique to Bimmers, but there is a bracket on the front of the alternator that has a toothed bolt on it. That toothing fits into a slotted bracket... So you will need to loosen the pivot bolt, then rotate that toothed bolt on the front, if you turn it one way, it will loosen the belt, the other way will tighten it. Once you have decent tension on it, just tighten the pivot bolt back up, and you SHOULD be good to go!
