Hey just have a few a/c questions. First of all do I need to change to the compressor or drier when converting to 134A? Second how can i tell if my compressor and/or clutch is going bad? Any comments will help me out..thanks

Usually to tell if the clutch is going bad you have to take it apart and look at it, the compressor usually starts to leak before it goes bad. To do a proper conversion the compressor, dryer, and a few other items should be replaced. 134A is cheeper than R12 to buy but 134 is not nearly as cold as a R12 system.

If the system is opened up then a receiver/dryer is in order and agood vacuming to remove moister and air.If the compressor is good then the evacuation and adding of 134a specific oil should do the trick. I have a 1988 750 I converted to 134a(kept the compressor but replaced the receiver/dryer) and the AC will freeze you knuckles off.

I don't think you have to change the compressor, if there is nothing wrong with it. You can get a kit to do the conversion yourself. A shop would probably charge you a couple hundred bucks (labor) to do it.

Mine was converted already when I got it, I never run it full blast and I live in the humid South.

I just recharged my 98 jeep cherokee limited yesterday. Damn it was easy. I was ready to take it in and have it done till my brother in law pointed out the kit. Anyway...my bimmer was converted over. I can't put it beyond 2 on the fan speed because of a loud vibrating sound that comes from it when i do. (not sure what that is) used But even no higher then 2 it freezes me out of the car!
