i drive a 87 325e with 5speed. i just bought the car from a used dealer.yikes! i want to bring up to factory specs.i am going to change timing belt, the 3 other belts, water pump and crankshaft oil seals. i have cleaned the air filter, changed the main fuel filter.the oil looks gold in color and smells new. The alternator will need changing in a while and so will the shocks.but they can survive for a little while longer. What i need help is for the engine valve noise coming from the engine or something. what is that? and there is a fuel pump buzzing when i turn it on. does that mean the fuel pump is dyeing. i know this thing has 2 fuel pumps a main and transfer one. what can I do to check the functionality of these.and the clunking in the back when i acclearate. i have heard from the output bearing of the driveshaft to the guibo or the center bearing or the final drive. i need some help here with any of this. thanks so much
mine's doing the same thing, that is the drive shaft noise.........
and your fuel pump(s) will be noisy, if the car runs and drives just fine don't worry about fueling issues you don't have. i have heard noisy pumps last for years and others that when they started making noise didn't make it a week. no way to tell how long parts will last sometimes. just keep rocking her until you have an issue, then fix.
but good decision on doing the timing belt, that's preventive maintence i totally stand behind.
Clunking could be the rear U-Joint. I just had my driveshaft replaced for the same symptom.
I tried the Guibo and the Center Bearing first (because combined they are less than $100) but finally ended up spending the $500 for a new driveshaft (original had about 150,000 miles). When the mechanic got the driveshaft out, he said the U-Joint was so bad he was surprised it even stayed together
yikes, sounds like i need to replace mine then, clunking is very bad. <_<
