`87 325ic clutch replacement - fair price?

Hello Everyone, I have an `87 325ic most likely needing a clutch soon. The throwout bearing is almost audible now. I have had a couple estimates on clutch replacement. They range from $750-1000. That seems about double what I usually expect from a rear drive clutch replacement. I may also do a timing belt. Any suggestions on fair prices for either job would help out a lot. Thanks, Joel
