87 325e antitheft stereo code - BMW Forum

I just got this 325 and when I got it the stereo worked fine however I changed the battery and now the code display comes up and the stereo doesnt come on. I have tried kuni BMW in portland Ore and they want to charge me $4o for the info. yeah uh lame.I could buy a new deck for that. What I realy want is to keep the car stock and just need to know how to get the 5 diget code.i I do not have the book or the card that has the card that came with the car when it was new I have the vin# and the stereo serial# ANY IDEAS????

Take it to an audio specialists, he will decode it for approx $15 or you can buy the software (copy ) on ebay, or give a BMW mechanic your VIN and he will obtain it from the data base.......but you will have to line his palm with silver of course!!!!, apart from that...........

$40 is insane, it should be free from the dealer. This assumes you have the title. Take it/them (title and/or car) to the dealer and show it to them and they should be able to get you the code for free. If they say they can't/won't I would call BMW NA in New Jersey and report this dealer to the authorities, as they are rip-offs and BMW should be aware of their practice(s)...Good Luck
