Hey all,

I am a new BMW owner (its been great so far!) and have been having some problems with my car stalling. It happens at seemingly random times - at idle, and at cruising speed. The engine just switches off and thats that - no other symptoms at all, and the car starts right back up. The distributor cap and spark plug wires (and the plugs) were replaced within the last 3 months.

I did some searches on the web and it looks like it could be the BMW's ECU unit (Bosch# 0 261 200 027). That seems like a likely explanation to me. Can any of you experts give me some opinions on what you think might be causing this stalling problem?

Also, if I DO have to replace the ECU, do any of you have reccomendations on where to get one used or reconditioned?

On a completely different subject, can you guys reccomend a performance chip for a stock 325 without any performance mods? I'd like the car to be just a bit peppier.

Thank for your help!

- Ryan

Before shelling big bucks in a ECU I would recommend (if you have not checked this before)

Replacing all vacuum lines and cleaning clogged passages.
Clean the throttle body.
Veryfying correct working of fuel pumps (the one at the fuel tank and the one under the car), the fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter.
Checking all the sensor connections and sensor readings/adjustments (I believe the Haynes manual says how to do it with a multitester). My dad's car stalled because of an intermittent connection in a sensor.
Check grounding points (after all these years some would be rusty leading to electrical problems)
And checking the distributor cap/rotor arm, which you already did.

As for chips, I don't know.

Hope this helps!
