86 325e Idles High And Low

I am looking for some help.I have a 1986 BMW 325with the 2.7 Inline 6.The problem i have is when i start the car hot or cold the idle jumps from 1000 to 3000 rpms and keeps on doing it.The car does not stall while doing this.If some one could give me a few pointers or maybe answers on what the heck is causing this it would be greatly appreciated...Thanks ghead

Have someone look at your idle control valve, and check all your high-pressure hoses to make sure you're not losing gasoline anywhere. That's probably not it.

It's an inline six, by the way.

With the fuel mixture being sold in USA many are finding issues with idle.

The gasoline is being converted from MTBE to alternative additives.

Using a restrictor with a 1/4 inch hole to control the maximum RPM.
