| '84 325e Electrical Annoyances - Advice? Greetings, all. I am a recent BMW owner and a relative n00b on these forums, so thanks in advance for your patience and advice.
I've had my lovely 1984 325e for about 6 months now and she's running great. For the most part, the electrics are working properly--if a little quirky, which is to be expected in a 27-year-old vehicle. But there are two issues that drive me fairly crazy and I'd like to try fixing them myself:
1. Turn signals and hazards: Sometimes, they work perfectly. Sometimes, they flash very slowly until they stop flashing; they just stay constantly lit. Other times, they stay lit and will not flash, period. This behavior is always consistent with both turn signals and hazards, it never happens independently from one to the other. Generally, warmer temperatures make the issue worse and cooler temperatures reduce its frequency. The behavior is consistent on all exterior lights and the dash indicators.
So far, I have replaced the appropriate fuses and tried cleaning the fusebox contacts. It seemed to work for a few minutes, but has really had no lasting impact on the problem's frequency.
2. Intermittent wipers. At intermittent speed, the wipers will work haltingly or not at all. Regular and high speed settings work fine; the manual wipe (pulling the lever down) works fine. Additionally, when you switch the wipers off from ANY speed or setting, they will often have a hard time returning to the down position. They tend to freeze in place the moment you switch them off.
Sounds like a new wiper motor is needed, right?
Any advice, links, or suggestions are very much appreciated. Thank you! |
