you can grind out the bottom under so its wide enough to fit put a blanket down in the trunk so itt doesn't burn holes. and then you can use a small spacer or grind a lot out, i used half inch spacers, and they fit in beauttiful jbl 3way's

DON"T DRILL NEW HOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it will lower value of car. Drilling or grinding the holes wider lowers value and it really doesn't look that good it would be better to just to mount them underth the holes there and just use nuts to keep them in place.

Don't ghetto rig your stereo system because someone told you if you drill a few holes that nobody can see, it will lower the value of your car. It's an '86 eta, not like it's worth a lot anyway.

who is talking about drilling new holes? you have to make the bottom wider so the speaker can actualy fit in the space. the magent is to big to drop down. and if your have decent with a grinder you can make it look natural its not that hard to make things look nice, what do you think custom shops do?

I'm glad someone else asked this. I'm actually wondering the same thing. I want to transfer the system I have in my stang and put it in the bimmer I just didn't know if it were possible. And about the value no one really cares about cars this old unless you plan on keeping everything original condition and puting it in your garage and take it to shows.

If you don't want to "drill" or "cut" any holes, just go and buy some 6x9 boxes and put them into the trunk.

the original mounting space for the rear speakers, on a car with super stereo, are just not deep enough for 6x9s. if you are like me and just dont feel like cutting on your back deck then you can just build spacers tall enough to mount the speakers, its only like an inch.

with super stereo the holes in the actual deck are the perfect size for 6x9s, the bowls are just too shallow

Make your life easy and drop in a set of 6.5"....They drop right in the existing holes...I doubt you will hear any sound difference between them and 6x9's...The kick panels are another story...6.5" will not fit in the hole....easiest way is cut out a hole in the kick panel and mount them on the outside of the panel....Only minor problem is the hood release rubs on the speaker grille....I used the Sony Explod 4-way's in mine with an Alpine head unit and it sounds great....Next step is to add a few amps and a couple subs.....Who say's you need a trunk anyway....LOL
