1990 325ic. What is the best way to get at the pivot bolt on the alternator (the one above the PS Pump). Should I remove the air box and plenum and go in over the top with a ratchet, short extension, and socket. Or, should I go in from beneath by unbolting the PS pump and setting it out of the way?
When I replaced my alternator I took out the air box....not sure if that's the easiest way, but that's how I did it. I've actually taken the air box out a few times--it's a pretty easy task..
I should also say that when I replaced my timing belt I had to go at it from underneith (spell check) and it was a much bigger pain to take off those plastic undercarrage/wheel well covers then it is to take out the air box. and if you don't have lift then I would FOR SURE go in from the top.
Thanks for the help, I took the MAF and air box out, tightend the alternator pulley belt and put her back together in about 30 minutes[/SIZE].
