325 automatic transmission help

Hi.
My daughter is driving her 87 325 back to Ohio for Christmas. She says that it is not starting in first gear, and that the fluid is burned.
Should I have it fixed, or replace it?
Any thought would be appreciated.

I'd try putting a new filter in it with fresh fluid. Also tell her to drive it as little as possible untill that can be done otherwise you may not be able to save the trans.
