316i leaking sun roof - BMW Forum

Afternoon all.

I'm hoping someone will be able to assist me.

I have a 1989 316i with a manual sun roof, recently I've noticed a pool of water behind the Driver seat and put this down to the sun roof and its seal as they are badly damaged.

Can I ask if anyone has had aany experience replaceing one of these.

Need to find out about parts and difficulty?.

any info would be great.

I would doubt you will be able to get that part from a dealer you can try, I would say a breakers is your best bet, also have you made sure the drains a clear???

when you say 'have you made sure the drains a clear???' can I ask you to elaborate, as I'm not sure what is meant.

The drain holes are situated to the front of the car, open sun roof, you should see/find two holes which drain any water away from the channels, if these are blocked water will enter the cabin, I use the cord you use for a flymo/grass strimmer and poke it down/up n down to clear the drains, they either come out below the windscreen or in the wheel arch, normally if you do the above and pour some water in the channel at the same time, the water should disappear and you will see it somewhere on the floor under the car, on a dry day of course!!.
