hey guys, this is a first time post!
I have read posts from you guys for a while... great forum!
I heard that 215/40/r17 with 20mm offset is the largest tire size
you can go with when you have a approx 1.5 inch dropped suspension.
I wanted to know where does it rub when you go with 225/40/r17?
Front, Rearn, on the fenders? inside the wheels holes?
Is there a work around to install 225 or 235 on a dropped suspension
e30

I got a 1989 325i, chipped, tokico blue shocks, H&R sport springs, Lock Diff from
a 325is, custom front valence, angel eyes, Recaro Seats. And a 1988 325is for spare parts.

you would not want to see it, the body is in really bad shape....
and I'm still with the stock bear bottle cap wheels!

will have photos in 3 weeks.... hopefully with some nice wheels
and some body works done.

Also, I have a set of BBS 14 inch from a 1988 325is. One of them
is destroyed due to an accident. Assuming it was a set of 4 in good
condition, are these worth some money? Maybe I could buy a single
wheel and sell the complete set?

thanks.

Welcome le max,

offset is for wheels, but you shouldnt go higher than et25 if you want to fit 225's, in order to clear the strut. with a 89, you will need to roll the rear fenders with 225's and possibly the fronts, but i havent heard of a 225/40/17 tire so you may be out of luck

you are right for 225/40/17 no availabitlity, I was searching for this tire size just today.

About the offset, I'm shopping for wheels right now, tell me one thing, what is "et25" does it mean offset of 25mm?

I think I will go with 215 mm tire, Would 7.5 inch or 8 inch wheel would fit? with this width, do I keep an offset of 20mm? Because I like the look of "streached" tire on a mag wheel.

thanks for your help guys, this info is really hard to find.

yeah, you got a 1988 and older, I heard those are easier to fit 225 with a 2inch drop.

fender rooling is hard to explain (even more when english is you second language, I'm from Quebec!)
It is when you bend the inside horizontal part of the fender (the fender part over the wheel) you bend it so it become vertical. This way, the fender takes less place in the wheel hole. Hope it is clear enough.

P.S. YEAH!!!!! the Montreal Canadians just scored the Boston Bruins!!!!! just a second ago!

yeah but they still rub. 225/45/17 tires are deffinately oversize for a e30. ive seen them up close next to my car when i was parked next to a 330ci and thought it looked out of proportion. putting spacers on probably wont help anything since they will put the wheel closer to the fender lip and may cause more rubbing

yeah my great typing skills at work there.

I'm getting the offest mostly for looks from the back. There is probably 2 in beween the fender and the tire yet. From the looks of things, it should stop the rubbing all together. At first i thought they were a bit over kill too. but they defenitaly grew on me. I needed something bigger to get more bite. I burned off the 215/40's way to fast. These are nice, give me really good launches and stick in beween shifts. I imagine there is a tiny loss in wheel power, but for some reason, it feels torqueyer (a yeah) . Is this because the tire bite better? mind you i even feel it just stepping on the gas while cruising.
