2003 325i steptronic problems - BMW Forum

So everything else on the car works fine. No problems with the automatic shifting...but when I bump the shifter to the left to start the steptronic shifting the display does't change from "D". Shifting up and down seems to have no effect either. No change on the display no change in gear shifting.

What kid of potential problems am I looking at? Bad transmition? Electrical issue? Or something not quite as bad? Someone take pity on this noobie and run me through some possibilities.

I'd almost swear it was as if you could turn the steptronic shifting off and on with a button somewhere the way it behaves. The light next to the manual shift does't pop on either when I push the shifter over to the left.

It could be as simple a connector disconnected, or something worse than that. Has there been any work done underneath the console area that may have involved, or at least provided the opportunity for some wiring not to be in place?

I just got the car yesterday so I'm really not sure. I looked through the service records and didn't see anything...but who knows? I guess I'm going to have to find somewhere in the Cincinnati, Ohio area to have it checked out.
