I went for my inspection yesterday in MA where I live and my car failed, the guy told me i had a problem with my steering system on the drivers side, he said and I quote, "It makes a ta-ta-ta sound," thats all he gave me, someone told me i could just be power steering fluid, so my first question is does a standered 1986 BMW 325es have power steering?
Next it also failed because the Emergency Brake didnt work, it will go up but its like it wont stop the car, is there any simple way to solve that problem or should I bring it to the mechaninc if its an easy fix i can do it my self.
not to sound sarcastic...but if you don't even know if your car has P/S. Do you realy think it's a good idea to try and fix Any part of your brake system?
secondly. the e brake could be burnt up ( rare but happens) secondly the line might need to be tightened

yes your car has power steering fluid, could be the pump cavitating, does that before its about to crap out, check your fluid level first tho. and yeah also the ebrake has a seperat drum, the pads can be adjusted in the drum too, we fixed my friends 325 ebrake by adjusting the pads in the drum, im going to do mine when im done putting in the new front suspension.

MA has very strict inspection standards. When I lived in MA, my truck failed the inspection because my license plate frame partially obscured the "Spirit of America" motto on the plate.
