1991 318is Engine Noise

Ok, I have a 91 318is and I'm getting a "ticking noise coming from my intake now I'm assuming injectors but I'm not sure. Once the car warms up it "pulses" at constant intervals it's like one of the injectors is spraying too much fuel and causing detonation. Also under hard acceleration you can feel the car hesitate, it's still got decent power but it's annoying and I wanna fix it. Also when it "pulses" I can feel the car vibrate but the RPM's don't change drastically. Anyone know how to "read engine codes" without actually taking my car back to BMW, I'm a student and on a budget otherwise I would.

man i had the same problem not too long ago, some mech told me it was the timing chain tensioner...its like 100bucks but then before i was going to get it fixed, the sound totally went away...it was weird and the prob tripped me out too...mine wasnt comming from the intake side tho, it was from the other side of the engine but it did make a weird ticking sound...and it went away after like 3000 - 3500 rpm :-/ hope that helps

thanks for the replay man, but yeah doesn't really help. I'm just gonna take it back to a dealership here and get them to diagnose it. you car looks alot like mine except I'm missing one of the center caps that some fool stole and part of my bumper impact strip on my back bumper that someone decided they needed. The thing I don't get is my car is a 91is but I have the M wheel not an airbag like every other 318is I've ever seen
