hey, i recently bought a bmw and im looking to get a cd player installed and im hoping to do it myelf. The deck thats in there right now is a sony tape deck...is that the factory deck with this 3 series?
No! The original one will say BMW on it!
The good thing is that the wiring has already been run for an after market radio, so insalling the new one will be easy.

so then how do i know which colour is for power etc?
There is probably a wiring diagram on top of the stereo.
If not then you are going to have to just do a hit and miss kind of thing.
Maybe you can do a search on that radio and find the diagram that way!
If not, give me the model number and I will see if I can find it!
Let me know if you need a hand!

ground = brown, consant power = red/green, ignition/"on" = purple... you should be able to figure out the speaker wires, and the power antenna wire is the kind of white/beige colored one sitting by itself all the way to the left... that should be it I think
thanks again E30M20b25, installed the alpine cda-9851 last night and it works like a treat, without your help it would have taken A LOT longer..
cheers
