1984 318i tach,odometer,mileage counter not working
I just purchased a 1984 318i and the tach nor the odometer and the mileage counter arent working at all. The rest of the gauges are working fine. could it have something to do with vacume, speedometer cable or something else. Any input at all would be greatly appreciated.Thank you for your time and concern in this matter. Richiemaier
No i havent checked the fuses yet just bought it sat. Does the tach and odometer run from a seprate cable cause the speedometer works fine. The tach, odometer, trip meter, and the cruise control doesnt work do all those run off fuses ?
Now i have the same car but my tach works fine. just my odometer doesn't work. the speedo and the odo aren't connected?
I found out that this particular car doesnt have a cable its electric coming from the tranny. i found a blown fuse but have a dead short somewhere it keeps blowing fuses.still trying to track my short.
O.K. Usually and key word Usually for the odometer/trip if and i mean IF someone (who previously owned the car) hit the trip reset while the vehicle was in motion (even 0.5mph) the gears in the gagues will strip out and have to be replaced i have done 3sets already it is not hard to do you just have to pull the odometer apart and the gears are like 80 bucks(yea for just two gears) and i order through one of the parts guys at my local dealership he knows where to get them NOT through the dealership so good luck and the tach i have faught the wiring chaffing coming from the distributer
