I am the second owner of this well maintained vehicle and I am steadily making my way through it. I am a long time 2002 owner and this particular FI system is new to me. Previous owner had the vacuum advance hose plugged with a ball bearing. I just removed it after 20k miles. Car rolls on throttle much better at low RPM's. Anyone know why he would have had the hose plugged?

Second issue is that even after a new O2 sensor the car starts great and runs beautifully when cold until the auxilary air valve closes and then it idles right on the verge of stalling and if you drive it it will stall when coming to a stop unless you heel and toe to keep the revs up. What can be done here? Once its warm its fine, just the 50 RPM hunting at idle.

It wasn't running hot, but I can tell you this: Fuel mileage has gone up significantly after unplugging the vacuum advance line. Very strange that it would be plugged.

Is this an E30 or an E21? Reason why is EU had E30 320i's and we never say them. Sounds to me is that it's L-Jetronic thou. Local libary might be able to get you the Bosch Fuel Injection books for a few days. Start there.

Good luck give us more details.
