i can start it and rev it up for 1 to 15 minutes but wont idle
after it dies it is flooded and wont start until later

you are probably intake leaking.....and does it rev up sort of funny? stumbles and the lot? if so you have yourself an intake leak. have someone fire her up and keep her running (opening the throttle) and take a can of starting fluid or the like (and make sure the motor is cool as well) and spray around the rubber intake boots and such. if she stumbles/revs up/etc when you spray an area you have the source of your leak and your lack of idle.
