1700+ Cold, Warm, All Time Idle

85 318i.
No luck adjusting the idle control screw.
Sprayed the hoses, I feel, thoroughly - heard no change in engine tach.
Don't own a vacuum tester.
Feel its mpg is suffering bc of this, and it IS annoying.

*starts on first crank and runs smooth
again, it idles the same whether hot or ice cold.
reliable, but idles high.

realize there are cat issues on the other side (shot), but this would not effect the idle, nor o2 sensor, as its the same cold and hot.

jumped the advanced vacuum solenoid and it is operating as it should.

months ago i saw mention of another sensor beneath the dash.

i'll give as much info as necess.

again, can't complain about the rest of the cars performance, only the idle prob, for the time being. need some experienced perspectives

Take out your ICV and hose it out with WD40...problem solved BTW...whether cold or hot...some cars wont even run 3 seconds with a bad O2...from experiance replace it anyway its cheap...

Okay, I looked for its locale in the Bentley, but the index doesn't list it. Help, I'm new to wrenching on my own auto, but confident. God that's rich or dangerous.
I will try to find this, but your pin pointing its location, well I would owe you a minimum great thanks.
Second, I read that a faulty cat. can give "prolonged idle." Would you agree that if the ceramic thing inside is rattling and solidified, SHOT, that this would force backpressure so great that i'd get high idles regardless of engine warmth????
