[color=blue] My radiator fan just seems to have spun off while I was driving and apart from denting and chipping my hood from the inside I am faced with probably a large bill for the other damage! Is this a known problem and what (if any) are my remedies? BMW528i 1999 Please advise!!

Yes, I have seen this described as an issue common to some E39s on the roadfly forum. In fact some of the guys posted photos of their cars' dented hoods, like some kind of frappin' Alien monster was trying to emerge from within. Consistent with the other E39 issues, BMW steadfastly refuses to acknowledge any kind of design issue, so you are on your own in fixing it. Just be glad you didn't have your face/head under there looking at something when it happened.
