| S does stand for sport an comes on the coupes only in e36's. I don't believe it necessarily means sport package. Also they didn't start doign this till one of the later e36 years.
Sports package e36's are SLIGHTLY lower than regular ones also. Paint matched side skirts means it does have sports package.
In e46's it is really all about the body kit an rim, but the thign is those can be purchased outside of a package so u really nvr know with soem thigns. Performance ackage is a sure thing though cuz of the tranny.
