He's talking about the rocker panels...there are no "side skirts" on early E36s. Just look at my sig pic. I have a huge dent in mine too. I want to do the exact same thing...going to get some stock skirts next summer and have them painted and slap them on.

The part he's talking about is PART OF THE CAR and cannot be removed.
