This can be done and I have done it to my 1998 E38 recently. There is a steady stream of Nav computers and monitor screens for sale on Ebay all the time, but what you may find harder to source is the trunk radio module and the wiring harness to install this system. In the end I wound up buying some pieces form my BMW Dealer just to get them vs. waiting and watching Ebay all the time.

I used the small screen becasue it was less $ than the wide screen, but the rest of my system is the latest revision MkIII computer running the 3-1/63 software revision.
