Ive just done this two days ago and I know that it works, (540i1997) and it should definately work for your car!
It works for either an oil service or an inspection 1 or 2!
the difference between resetting the lights for oil or inspections is the length of time you keep the 7 and 19 pins bridged WITH the ignition in position 2,
*Get a small piece of thin wire or better still a paper clip!
*with ignition off, bridge the pins 7 and 19 by looping the clip accross the two
*once this is done then inside the car turn key to position 2 (not start) then start counting. (over 3 seconds for an oil reset, over 10 seconds for an inspection reset).
*once the required time is reached then remove the clip from the 20 pin connector whilst the ignition is STILL in position 2.
*now turn off key, reset the cap on the 20 pin connector and then re-insert key in ignition and check for five green lights!
removing the clip whilst ignition is on is important as ive tried it by just turning the key off after the required time - but it didnt work.
also with the paper clip, you will need to bend the two ends into a mini loop so that it makes contact with the sides of the female pins of 7 and 19 as its this you need to do and not to contact the bottom!
remember if you succeed, your lights will be reset and so the next service will show an inspection 1 or two in sequence. this means that if your car needs an inspection 1 now, and you do the reset, then the next service will call for inspection2 - and vice versa!
make sure that you bridge 7 (service lights) and 19(earth) or you could be earthing out electric windows or other stuff that you dont want to short out! these pins are numbered if you get a torch you can see the numbers next to the pins
good luck. |
Not to be a smarty pants or anything, but in the time it took just to READ the above instructions, I could have already reset my codes and lights with my $149 Peake Research tool, and I KNOW I haven't irreversibly goobered up anything either. But again I acknowledge they aren't free...
