| BMW's have a high compression, thus a turbocharger wouldn't work too well. Going N/A or (if you love forced indcution), then go supercharger. The e36 ran OBDI from 92-95 and then switched over to OBDII in 96. The OBDII system (as you probably know) is a tid bti more difficult to heavily modify the engine with. One of the cars I think would match you is either the 95 M3. If you can;t find a 95, then go with a 97-99 for the SLIGHTLY more agressive grill look and then theres no bgi deal ifyou get the 96. If you can't afford the used M3, then go with a newer e36. I think you'd be matched well with the 328iS. I really shouldn't act like I know how you are, but I think you want the extra little horsepwoer here and there that come with the 2.8 liter engine.
One note, owning a BMW is defintely goign to be different tan a civic. In "bmw-land" people aren't out to be jackasses and claim the be the fastest car out there. We respect all BMW's. It isn;t abotu speed, but the love of the game. None of this "I GOT V-TEC WOOT UR CIVIC SUCKS ASS I HOPE YOU DIE IN A FIRE THIS IS THE LONGEST RUN-ON SENTENCE EVER" kinda things.
Good luck, and God (a chick who drives a 6 speed BMW) bless.
