Why the hell are there so damn many different versions? I mean, there are 310's, 316's, 318's, 323's, 325's, 328's, 320's(?), I mean, how many goddamn versions are there? and why so many versions? Does a higher number mean more luxary? Whats up?
Well, there is more than one person in the world buying 3 series. Different markets of the world want differnt types of cars. Also, the last 2 numbers represent displacement, i.e. 325i=3 series 2.5L

Um you are confused. Since we got that out of the way. Every car has lot of different engines over the time. For e.g: Like E36 for US had to bump the 325i to 328i due to OBDII(emissions). 316i was too small for US, so we got the 318. 310 Never made it here, since it is slow and prefferd by Europeans due to thier expensive gas. 323i is just a 325i, but in E46 or very late E36 form. That was when BMW was reworking thier model numbers. There are also deisel engine for the 3 series, which I am going to skip on.

i agree, why so many versions?
in the booklet that comes with mine shows a 324d and also add to this the cabriolet versions, the american and euro versions, the "ix versions. the is versions and the "i" and non i versions.
This silly thread started about E30's correct? now we have spread to every model of BMW. Really now does it matter?
