Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, but rumor has it....:

It’s been a busy year at BMW. In the last 12 months the German automaker began selling the next-generation 5-Series, the all-new X3, a revised X5, and now the 6-Series has returned after a 15-year hiatus. So what’s next? Based on the car unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, there’s a good chance it will be the next-generation M5 sport sedan. For a long time the M5 was the ultimate in 4-door high performance; however, this current generation is almost five years old, and a number of strong competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz E55 and Audi RS6 have come to market in the last few years. In Geneva, BMW showed what it’s calling the M5 Concept. Based on the new 5-Series platform, the concept features a 5.0-liter V10—yes, V10—engine mated to a 7-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG). Horsepower is rated around 500, which gets this sedan to 60 mph in less than five seconds. So when will BMW build the M5? We’ll quote the BMW press materials: “When exactly the concept of a series-produced M5 will be realized cannot be confirmed at the present time. However, it can be assumed that a successor to the extremely popular BMW M5, based on the BMW Concept M5 now being exhibited, could possibly go on sale during the course of the year 2004.”

I guess, maybe?!
