a close family friend has one and she takes it to tahoe all the time in the winter thru the snow. she says you need snow chains for sure. once you got them on your set with plenty of power to get you through. power can be scary on ice at the same time, so be carefull. don't attempt snow without chains
Moved last winter from Florida to Lake Tahoe and arrived in the first snow storm of the season. The Diamantis performance tires on my X5 4.4 did not perform well in snow, but the winter tires I had installed on 17 inch wheels the next day performed exceptionally well in blizzard conditions as well as warm Los Angeles freeways. In other words, the X5 will perform exceptionally in snow, provided you dress it in the appropriate shoes. Also bought chains, but never even thought of putting them on.
