Got one Hahaha!!!, It gives a little more power, but nothing really that great, I suppose it gave me a bit better acceleration in the flat spot, but does sound good when you stick your foot down and hear the S...................uck and when you turn it off its sort of puffs a sigh of relief...and looks good with the hood up at a car show apart from that I have a K&N one so it will out last my car which saves a lot of money from replacing the normal filter every service...
As for your question are they trouble.....no trouble at all..

I stepped in a plate of Pasta the other day - now I have to worry about my Carbonara footprint!
Does the shield fit in neatly with the removal of the factory airbox?
Do you mean you changed the filter that was supplied with the intake with a K&N version?
Do you use the K&N oil filters as well?
Mine fits neat enough, although mine doesnt have the shield, I did have to make a little bracket to support it which only took 10 minutes, as for the cone mine was supplied with a green one, at the next service I bought a K&N cone, I dont use a K&N oil filter I always by genuine BMW ones from the dealer.
