I think you have just opened Pandora's box. I have a 1988 750il, so rig for ramming.

Fix my e24.

Tranny lost all forward gears.

First problem started, no forward gears, car drives in neutral.
Second, Car has forward gears, reverses in neutral, reverses in reverse.
Third, Car has no forward gears, neutral and reverse work as they should.

I've heard everything from shifter cable to clutch packs. Shifter cable seems to be in good order.

do u mean by "Car drives in neutral" that it will move while in neutral position. have you changed transmission oil recently or check its level.
