My car - with 135,000 miles - has just started to burn oil. A bit of white smoke is coming out of the left (driver's side) exhaust. Do you have any idea what might be causing this? Hard to fix the problem?
If it's white smoke that sounds more like coolant than oil....Oil burns off blue smoke. if it's white (coolant) then probably a head gasket...if it's blue (oil) could be rings, valves/valve seats, etc.
Many of our Bimmers emit white smoke at idle and it seems to be temperature and humidity related, my 1988 750 does this band I burn no oil or lose any coolant.
