What's up with this water cooled alternator? Thats crazy! My BMW dealer's price is $974 for an e38 740il alternator. Is there a cheaper alternative...but with quality? Thanks.

Same story with my E39, and no, it doesn't get much cheaper than that. Look at Pelican Parts' website, maybe they can cut you a deal.

I replaced mine two weeks ago got it for less than $400. and its the original bosch. send me a message and I'll let you know where I got it. not sure if I can convey that info on the message board.

i'm no mod, but.. if its not an ad but its actually simply useful info you can post where you buy parts. i personally use autohausaz.com for most my stuff. then my fallback is always bavauto. very very helpful people over at bavauto. plus their phone # is easy to remember lol. should be around 200 or so for the unit at either of those suppliers.

no ad at all. I got my from bmwpartsonly.com I checked the prices at those other sites and bmwpartsonly's price is still lower.
