UK 850ci 1993 - 1994

My neighbour has an 850 ci with radio fault. The radio actually works but the volume control is faulty. The fault means you can not turn the volume up or down and at the moment it is on full blast and is in danger of blowing the speakers. We have tried lots of nationwide repair specialists with no luck.

The radio is a bavaria professional and a new one from Germany is £500.00 + vat and delivery.

Any suggestions

These cars are pretty rare over here especially with our petrol prices currently about £4.60!! a Gallon Its a real shame though as the car is ready to go apart from the tunes. Are there any other types of radio that can be put in as a replacement?

There should be head units that will fit.

Any ideas where to start i.e. websites etc. We did find an old secondhand unit on ebay a while ago but got outbid at the last moment. I think that sold for nearly £300.00. I guess the answer maybe to hold tight for a new unit to come up or bite the bullet and pay for a new one. Ouch!

E36 headunits are identical in terms of connectors, I put my E31 business stereo into my E36 when I sold it, and it worked fine. Same pin out and everything.

EDIT: That was a US market car, I believe they are the same in the UK/EU but just wanted to add that. It should work fine though.

I had mine replaced too but it's not a BMW UNIT, I think it's a Panasonic.
