Transmission start up in Manual Mode

I have a 2001 740il, My mechanic recently changed out my woodgrain Center Console. After the change out, Whenever, I start up the car, It start up in Manual Mode. I have to push the A/M Control located next to the shifter to the "A" Automatic Mode position.

I've remove the Center Console and all wires are connected, nothing pinched or broken on the wires. However, I can not figure out what causing the problem the car to start up in manual mode, Please help....

If you start the car, move into auto, then stop the engine without going all the way back to position 0, then restart the engine, does it revert back to manual?

Yes, revert back to manual mode. I've tried holding the button in "A" Automatic mode for 1 min and still it does not changed.
