redrockcanyonman is an unknown quantity at this point
I changed the oil in my 97, e32, 740i but I can't get the oil change light to go out. How do I get it off? Owners manual doesnt' explain

there is a special reset tool that resets the oil service and or inspection lights. It can be purchased on ebay among other places. Also some people opt to just ground pin #7 of the diagnostic connector in order to reset the lights, if you do a simple google search you should be able to find this info. Personally i recommend the tool. its cheap enough.

I second the idea of the tool. Peake Research sell one that also reads codes and resets the inspection lights as well.

You need a reset device,they are available on this site somewhere,when I get
my 740 back from the transmission shop I`am gonna get one.it plugs into the
diagnostis port .looks like they cost around 150 200

They have a writeup in the FAQ section on how to reset the lights and such....its free and very simple to do, unless you really want to buy the tool...
