I'd like to remove the phone that comes with a '95 740i and replace it with some sort of jack that would fit my phone and have that run through my sound system like the stock phone does. When I was in Santa Monica a couple of weeks ago, I looked in some guys car and I could swear he had some plug for this typical motorola cell phone. I would like to get one for me Samsung R225, and I'm guessing (hoping) somebody wised up and made a jack like that. Does anybody know if they exist, and if so where I can get one? Thanks.

some E38s, the later ones, came with typical motorola phones that you could detach with the hands free system (which i think became standard on 7's). do you know what year this guys car was with the motorola phone?

No, unfortunately I was just jogging around and it caught my eye, and I looked in. It was just some stranger's car. Hmm, so the older '95 models don't even have that option then? It would be so great to be able to use my cell phone within the car, hands-free

i dont know if it was standard on your car, but you do have the option, just a older version. around 2000 or so bmw came out with the CPT8000 hands-free system which was like the 3rd generation of the integrated cell phone feature. i'm sure you could upgrade to it, but i dont know if it would be as easy as just switching the armrests.

here's the cpt8000 with the motorola phone...

THanks, that really helps...do yo have any idea how much that would cost, in terms of installation and actually buying the CPT8000. But that is exactly what I saw.

Well a quick search for the CPT8000 brought up a couple of things. THe unit itself costs about $800, which is quite a bit. Second, I'm not sure if it is backwards compatible with older model cars, and third, it doesn't work with T-Mobile which is what I have, so I think it may be out of the question at this point.

later this year, bmw will be offering as an option "bluetooth" retrofit. you do not have to have bmw's phone. you can use any cell phone company and still use the phone features in your car.

to be honest with you, i do not know if it will work on older models. there isn't much news on this yet. but as soon as i get more info on it, i will post them up.

Bluetooth is perfectly fast enough for ALL the features that would be available for a bluetooth connection to the car. PCM voice runs at 64K. Bluetooth starts off at 115k, but some devices run as high as 741k.

I too am interested in learning more about the phone situation. I currently have a 2001 740iL that came equipped with the hands free Motorola phone located in the center armrest. The phone now, (I purchased the car in April 2000) seems a bit outdated and does not have near the features that the newer phones have. My question is this - Because all of the wiring is existing, can I just switch out the phone, or is there more to it? When I go to the BMW accessories site, they don't even cover phones. Also, when I bought the car, in Wisconsin, there were only 2 different service companies that I could subscribe to, one being US Cellular, which now does not fit for me, as I travel to Chicago frequently, and as soon as I cross the border, I'm now in ROAM. I thought if I changed service, I might as well investigate a new phone as well.
I look forward to any feedback. This is my first time at this site, and I'm not sure if I've got the navigation down.

As long as I'm here, I have one more issue. I absolutely can not stand all the brake dust. I have been told that putting the dust shields on the front will interfere with the car's performance. I would love to hear from someone who has installed them and has an opinion.

Thanks in advance
